Some spaces just don't work. The entry off the garage was exactly that - cramped, cluttered, and fighting against the way the family actually used the home. A mismatched hutch pushed into a corner, no real storage, dark walls, and a layout that made every trip in from the garage feel like an obstacle course. That's where we started.
The plan was to rework two existing closets to open up a proper entry to the garage and create a space that actually functions. By rethinking how those walls and doors were arranged, we were able to carve out a dedicated mudroom area with a clear path into the rest of the home. Better flow. Less chaos.
What ended up going in is the kind of storage setup that makes daily life noticeably easier. Floor-to-ceiling cabinetry with upper doors for closed storage and multiple rows of deep drawers below - built clean and fitted tight to the wall. There's a spot for coats, a spot for shoes, and enough drawer space to handle the kind of everyday clutter that used to pile up with nowhere to go.
The finished hallway connecting it all tells the whole story. Clean white walls, recessed lighting, dark tile underfoot - it feels intentional now. That's the difference between a space that was just there and one that was actually designed. Interior remodeling like this isn't about making things pretty. It's about solving a real problem with the layout of a home.
Small structural changes can have a big impact on how a home feels day to day. Rerouting traffic flow, adding the right storage in the right spot, and cleaning up a space that was previously doing nothing useful - that's exactly the kind of work we do at Gatz Homes + Renovations.
